In Generations, Norman returns as the Dark Goblin. With the assistance of Dr. Curt Connors, he bonds with a synthetic symbiote and attempts to destroy Spider-Man and his team with his own team of supervilains.

After his defeat in Generations Norman is reverted from his Dark Goblin form with injuries recovered and sent to prison alongside Jackal and Chameleon

History[]

Early Years[]

At some point in Norman's life, Harry was born.

Harry's Suspension[]

When Harry was framed for a crime he didn't commit, he was suspended from Horizon High. Norman created his own school, Osborn Academy for Geniuses, for Harry to attend.

Osborn Academy for Geniuses[]

Norman began holding interviews to see who should attend Osborn Academy. Norman ended up pushing two friends to fight each other, nearly putting Oscorp Tower in danger. Thankfully, Spider-Man managed to stop the fighting.

Harry Is Cleared Of Charges[]

After he was cleared of the crime and it turned out to be Spencer Smythe out of revenge, Harry was allowed to return to Horizon High. Before going to a party at Horizon to welcome him back, Norman convinces his son to continue attending Osborn Academy. Harry agrees to do so.

Secrets[]

Norman got into contact with Raymond Warren who wanted to show Norman his mutagen. At first, Norman was not interested. However, after Raymond was discovered to be the Jackal and was arrested, Norman changed his mind.

Physical Appearance[]

Norman Osborn (Earth-TRN633) from Marvel's Spider-Man Season 1 3 001

Norman is a middle aged man with brown hair and grey eyes. His attire consists of a grey dress shirt under a black vest, a red tie, black pants, and shoes.

Civilian Attire[]

Norman is always seen wearing a suit and tie The only exception is when he was recovering from the make-shift Spider-Virus cure quickly made from Peter Parker's blood

In Generations his suit appears to have burnt up in the fire from Hobgoblin Part 2 leaving Norman only in a t-shirt and his pants (with one of the pants legs partially missing).

As a Spider-Monster[]

As The Hobgoblin[]

Despite the obvious difference in size between him and his son, Norman looked exactly the same as Harry when he wore the armor. He also used a voice modulator to mimic Harry's vocal disguise as the Hobgoblin

As The Dark Goblin[]

Norman becomes a demonic-looking goblin figure of tremendous height and stature. The symbiote covering Norman in this form is both green and black in coloraturas. When Norman reveals his human face in this form his pupils are entirely green lacking an iris.

When injecting himself with Jackal's animal serums, the Dark Goblin symbioses grows body parts of the animals from the serums (ex; a rhino's horn, spider legs).

Personality[]

Norman displays a friendly and calm behavior at most of times, encouraging others to the point where they become competitive. He proves to be manipulative, using others from his own gain, even his own son. He can also be proud of his family and accomplishment, a belief he wants Harry to live up to.

After his defeat on The Hobgoblin Part Two, he spends his time hidden and manipulates Dr. Connors in order to assist him in his return by preventing him from becoming the Lizard again. When he bonds with the synthetic symbiote and becomes the Dark Goblin, he goes insane with such power and believes that his Goblin persona was his real self all along, even comparing himself to Spider-Man claiming that the hero's masked persona was his true self as well. He shows a reckless behavior, having no regards for others and not even himself, as he was willing to do anything in order to destroy Spider-Man, even if he was going to be killed in the process.

Relationships[]

Harry Osborn[]

Harry is Norman's son and only child. Norman often tries to push his son to succeed. When Harry was suspended, Norman created the Osborn Academy for Geniuses so Harry can attend it. Even after Harry was allowed to return to Horizon High, he convinced his son to continue attending Osborn Academy. In "Hobgoblin", Norman entrusts the Hobgoblin equipment to Harry Osborn in trust that he would destroy Spider-Man, but when Harry refused, Norman donned the Hobgoblin Armor, and tried to destroy Spider-Man himself, and again supposedly died in the process. When Harry resumed control of Oscorp (not to be confused with Osborn Academy, which was destroyed during the Spider-Island arc), Norman was revealed to be alive (in some sort), and reveals a new, deadly project to his son.

In Generations, Norman made his return to bond with the synthetic symbiote and Jackal's Formula to create the synthetic symbiote and once again attempts to manipulate his sown in siding with him, although Harry refuses.

As Dark Goblin, he once again attempted to persuade Harry to join him in destroying Spider-Man. At this point Harry has stepped out of his father's influence, finding it humorous that Norman is still trying to manipulate him, and claimed that Norman is no longer his father. At this revelation Norman claimed Harry was still a disappointment and continued his battle against him and Spider-Man

Peter Parker/Spider-Man[]

Before knowing Peter was going to Horizon High Norman respected him as Harry's best friend and even offered him a at Osborn Academy. in Stark Expo

As Spider-Man he and Norman are archenemies. Not only was this because of Spider-Man being an ally of Max Modell and Horizon High but because of Spider-Man technically being the first Spider-soldier from Raymond Warren's experimental spiders.

In Generations, Norman reveals that he knew Peter was Spider-Man though he doesn't reveal how he found out. It could've been from watching Horizon High's surveillance footage while he was recuperating or if Connors told him after the doctor eavesdropped on Gwen, Anya, and Miles in Spider-Man Unmasked. Nevertheless, as the Dark Goblin, Norman was pleased he could fight Peter on equal if not superior ground. Dark Goblin even claimed that Peter Parker was just a false identity for Spider-Man as Norman was the same for Dark Goblin.

Max Modell[]

Norman sometimes sees Max as a rival while Max tries to make peace with him. Not much else is known at this time.

Norman and Max are business rivals due to both being well known in the same profession. Despite speaking in a clam and with the utmost respect when around Max and his students from Horizon Norman heavily criticizes the school

It is revealed in Generations that Norman was the one who orchestrated Connors getting Max Modell fired in order for Norman to claim Horizon High for himself

Raymond was a former employee of Norman who had to let go because of his erratic behaviour and his idea to create a spider-powered army. Norman considered letting Raymond return to Oscorp after explaining to Norman about how a student from Horizon would undergo a transformation with one of his formulas. However after Raymond was arrested Norman declined ever letting back into Oscorp.

This is what escalated their feud for Raymond made it his goal to regain his spider experiment and to make Norman and Oscorp fall in the process

Raymond came to Norman hoping to gain a teaching position at Osborn Academy. Norman was not interested. However, he was interested in the mutagen Raymond created, until Raymond himself prefer to use his project for a coup against Osborn, with the help from Spencer Smythe, in turn ,that Spencer’s son Alistaire changes his allegiance with Norman himself instead.

Adrian Toomes/Vulture[]

In a twist of fate Toomes would mass-produce all of Oscorp

Spencer Smythe[]

Norman hired Smythe to get Harry kicked out of Horizon High so he could enrolling him into Osborn Academy.

Norman Promised Symythe a teaching position at Oscorp but either he change his mind or the entire deal was a lie.

Trivia[]

  • Norman's current voice actor, Josh Keaton, previously did the voice of Spider-Man in The Spectacular Spider-Man.
    • Keaton had also voiced Harry Osborn in Spider-Man (2002 video game), Spider-Man 2 (2004 video game), and Spider-Man: Friend or Foe.
  • In the comics and various other media, Norman Osborn becomes the Green Goblin, however in this series he takes on the mantle of the Hobgoblin.
    • Although he doesn't becomes the Green Goblin, he returns in Generations as the Dark Goblin, whose design is partially inspired by the Red Goblin from the comics.
      • Ironically, Norman's Green Goblin persona was released on the toy line of the series.
  • This series marks the first (and so far only) time that Norman becomes the Hobgoblin.
  • Norman having created the Hobgoblin identity in the series is most likely a nod to the 1994 Spider-Man animated series, which also had Norman create the Hobgoblin.
